After another arse of a journey we arrived in Koh Samui at our lush hotel. Such a treat after sleeping in dumps. It took a few buses and a ferry journey to get there and as with the majority of Asia transport, it was a nightmare, but I am getting bored of typing about all the things that go wrong with the transport in Asia so we will just go from arriving at the hotel. It had been a long day but we had made it with an hour to kill before we had to set off to collect mum from the airport. I had been missing mama so much so I couldn't wait to see her- even though we were shattered and starving! We finally got her after a long flight delay and ventured back to the hotel, Mike and I grabbing fast food on the way as we hadn't eaten all day and were starving. It was so nic to see mum! She was knackered from the journey o we had a quick catch up at the hotel and all ventured to bed. It was a late start the next day due to mum's jet lag but then we went for dinner and a swim at the pool. Mum and I also had a little stroll down the beach. Again an early night awaiting the arrival of Anna (my sister) the following day- which we all knew we would need energy for!!!
The next day I went on my own to go and collect Anna from the ferry port and it was lovely to see her. She presented me with my birthdya gift which she had already opened and used herself along the journey- she cracks me up!! We went back to the hotel and mum and Anna were so happy to see each other, even if things did get heated at times due to them sharing a room----ahhhh family! Who knew you could even disagree about shower gel! I can't remember the events over the next few days in order but we went out and took mum to an ice bar. This brought back memories of when Mike and I went to Barcelona with two of my best friends Jess and Leanne when we went to an ice bar there. For those of you who haven't been or heard of an ice bar, the name explains it all. It is a bar made out of ice, the glasses are ice, and there are ice sculptures everywhere. You are given thick warm coats, hats, gloves and socks. After this we got mum playing a drinking game which I am pretty sure she has never done before in her life! We had such a good time. We went out another night too (not clubbing) but for drinks and mum was shocked to see each little bar had a pole dancer in the middle of it- not proper pole dancers, just a few Thai girls trying to dance sexy with a pole but in fact looked like a 'lady' with no arms whose privates were on fire and were trying to put it out by bashing it against a pole. It was hard to distract mum from this! A few cocktails later though it was forgotten. We also had a day out to ride on elephants. To most people this is a dream come true. To me it is hell on earth. I hate elephants. HATE. Don't get me wrong I don't wish harm on them or anything but I just can't stand them. However, Mike had been wanting to ride elephants ever since we set out on the trip and I alwas said no. With mum and Anna there I had mum to keep me cool about this and I got on one with her, Anna and Mike on another. We went round the coconut plantation on them and we saw monkeys up in the trees. We even got to feed bananas to the elephants whilst riding on them. After this we were made to watch an elephant show which is the scariest thing I have ever seen in my life. Think 'Pink Elephants on Parade' in Dumbo. If you don't know it- google it! I don't want to go into it but it was very depressing too, the way these animals are chained up and made to do tricks. One of the keepers even hit a baby elephant and it squealed. It is so upseting. Same with the monkey show. We had no idea we would be subjected to this. In the crowd there were some Russians, Brazillians etc and they were loving it! It really was cruelty to animals. We then all got our feet nibbled by some fish but these fish were fat and lazy and were obviously used to getting hundreds of feet a day so they didn't really bother. We set off sight seeing after this and went to see the mummyfied monk, the grandfather and grandmother rocks which are in the shape of private parts (how interesting....not), the big buddah and the waterfalls. On top of this we had some beach time and went to jump the waves that kept sending us all flying- they were so strong!
On Christmas eve my other sister Jane arrived with her partner Jado from LA. I was so happy to see them! We all had a few drinks with santa that night, went out for dinner and headed to bed. The next morning we headed off for a day by the beach. Christmas on a beach- first and last. I loved it but it just didn't feel like Christmas day at all. I actually missed the crappy weather, good food, boozy snoozes etc. More than anything I missed my niece and nephew. It just wasn't the same without my other sister Sally or dad. We managed to skype Sal and I got to speak to Evelyn which really made my day! Anyhow, whilst we were at the beach Jane, Jado and Anna all decided to choose each other a secret henna as a laugh and they weren't allowed to know what they were getting. I opted out and went to the pool with Mike at this point as he hates the beach so I said I would do half and half. I am so glad I did when I saw what monstroseties they came back with, especially the one Jado had chosen for poor Anna! She had a naked lady on her arm (they got to chose where each other had it too) but it is the worst thing I have ever seen. The man who did it can't draw for toffee!!! Plus he had the cheek to say my real tattoos were no good and he can do real ones better- so glad I declined his offer- like I was so tempted :/ but back to Anna, her henna was awful with mutated breasts, an adam's apple etc, Jane had a gross Minnie Mouse on her arm and Jado had an equally gross Whinnie the Pooh henna on his wrist. As you can see, Anna pulled the short straw on this one!
We all decided to go on a daytrip to some marina national park. On the boat, the tour guide made a special connection with mum and called her 'Mummy'. It was like something from a sketch show. It was so funny. We went for a walk up a mini mountain which was just purely stairs to go and visit a beautiful lagoon followed by a little paddle in the sea. We then all went kajaking around a couple of small islands in the sea. I was with Anna, Mike with Jado and Mum with Jane. We decided not to stick to the group and went speeding off. It was a lot of fun apart from Anna kept getting annoyed with me as I made us stop rowing every now and then to see what the big group were doing and to make sure we were going the right way. There is no harm in breaking the rules if you are sensible with it! Haha. I think that should be my motto. Again, other than that we more or less jus had beach days, went for dinner and drinks etc. However, one of the days Jane was adamant to walk along the beach to get to the part we wanted to chill at, we tried to advise her and mum not to as the sea was crashing against the wall at this particular point in the path but she boldy exclaimed she was doing it and that we should follow her. Anna, Mike and I went our way. A perfect viewing point to see Jane below in all her lovely gear with her bag with mobile etc in and towel drenched as she was nearly shoulder height lost in the water, hahaha! She had to throw all of her things to us up above and make her way through this trecherous bit of sea. Bless. I suppose you had to be there but it was hillarious!
This leaves us at the end of our trip with mum. No more details on that as I may cry but she left to go home back to England as we moved onto the next part of our trip. I hope she had a brilliant time!
It was a great holiday, the only thing that would have made it better is if we had the full set of Wilkinsons there.
